An Answer to Prayer

Friends, God is so GOOD!  Mike met with the retinal specialist again yesterday.  After extensive testing, they determined that he does NOT have macular degeneration!  They believe he developed macular dystrophy due to a virus.  They do not think his eyesight will get any worse.  There are vitamins he can take that may or may not improve his vision.  Right now, we are just praising God that his eyes aren't deteriorating!  Glory hallelujah!

While this diagnosis will still require us to make some lifestyle adjustments, it is entirely manageable, and for that we are so very thankful.  We would still covet your prayers, of course, as we navigate this new territory.  Mike will probably need a larger computer screen, larger print Bible, etc.  Until our next visit to the specialist in August, he will not be doing any driving.  This is probably the biggest adjustment of all.  Not only will I be our family's primary driver, I will be the ONLY driver.  We leave for our much-anticipated vacation to the Smoky Mountains in two weeks - that is 12 hours of driving, one way, 14 if you add in stops!  Mike and I were planning to take turns with driving duties, but now this will fall entirely to me.  And he will be spending the entire 14 hours in the back seat with the boys, armed with pacifiers, movies, baby toys, snacks, diapers, sippy cups, burp cloths, etc.!  Pray that I will have enough caffeine & sugar energy & stamina to get us there and back safely.  And that Mike will have plenty of earplugs patience in tow!

Thank you for all the love and prayers sent our way.  We feel truly blessed!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Love,
The Hollemans
