Lunch Date

Today after church we headed to Peoria for lunch at Applebee's. It's always fun to go on a date with my boys!

Me and the big boy...is it just me or does he look SO GROWN UP in this photo?!?! His hair is a little crazy...I REALLY need to cut it but haven't gotten to it yet - hopefully this week!

Our date cut into his nap time a little bit, so he caught some zzzzzz's on the way home. Now we are settling in for dinner and a movie...perfect way to round out a wonderful weekend!

Bath Time!

Just some cute photos of bath time tonight...

No, the water was not really that dirty, haha. He was getting an oatmeal bath to help with some major diaper rash...poor boy!

Joshua LOVES to brush his teeth!

So handsome and clean!

This little guy still isn't sure about baths, but he is warming up to them. Don't you just love those roly poly thighs?!?!

I guess that wasn't so bad, Momma.

Nothing sweeter than two clean, snuggly boys in their jammies! Nighty night!

Wednesday Recap

Yesterday, I was blessed by a friend who came over for coffee time. It was wonderful to spend time just chatting and catching up. I LOVE being home with my boys, but sometimes a momma needs a little adult conversation! I am so thankful for the sweet women God has placed in my life! The morning left me feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and ready to take on the day!

We spent the rest of the day just playing and being silly. Don't you just want to squeeze those adorable chubby cheeks?!?! Oh, and can we talk about both boys' sleep habits lately? Last night, Luke slept 8 hours and Joshua slept 9. They have been doing so well, which means Momma and Daddy are feeling much more rested! Thank you, Jesus!

I am so bad at taking these pictures...I have short arms, and can't manage to hold the camera, smile, get my child to smile, and take the photo at the same time! Despite all of that, I think this one turned out kinda cute!

And, of course I had to get one with this cutie as well! It is much easier when Daddy has control of the camera! :-)

Last night, we decided to take the boys to a local high school basketball game. Our good friend and Joshua's favorite baby-sitter was playing, and we were excited to get to watch her! Joshua started eyeing the snacks of everyone behind us, so we just had to splurge the 50 cents and buy him his own popcorn - he LOVED it! As he was watching the game, he kept saying, "C'mon! Let's go! Go team!" Haha. He had so much fun!

Both boys were so well-behaved! It was wonderful, because Momma and Daddy actually got to watch the majority of the game!

Well, I should get moving...we are having company over for dinner tonight, and I have some yummy food to make!

Have a wonderful day!

Terrific Tuesday!

Our Tuesday got off to an amazing start when Luke slept until 6 a.m., ate and then went back to sleep until 9 a.m. and his big brother slept in until 8 a.m.! When Joshua got up, we snuggled and watched TV in Momma and Daddy's bed. We don't get to do that often, so it was the perfect way to ease into our day!

After a leisurely breakfast, we got dressed and headed to the grocery store to pick up a few things. The boys are such good shoppers! Joshua loves to name everything on the shelves as we walk through the aisles. See how Luke's car seat fills the entire cart? This makes for some fancy packing to be able to get all the groceries we need!

The day was made even better when I spotted these...they are seriously the BEST Valentine's candy ever! I may or may not have eaten way too many of them already...

Hope your Tuesday was as terrific as ours!

Crocs

I have never hopped on the Crocs bandwagon. No matter how you dress them up, they are still Crocs.

CHEESE!

The other day when I was taking some pictures of Luke, Joshua asked me to take his picture. This is his "cheese" face! He is looking SO much older than 2 to me! We have had a fun Friday spent here at home, playing games and watching movies as a family (Mike has Fridays off, since he works Sundays). It is so nice having Daddy home! Hope your weekend is off to a good start - it's time to get these boys (and their parents!) to bed!

Twins?

I know I have said it before, but these two boys could be TWINS!

Joshua at 7 weeks.

Luke at 9 weeks.

Josh was quite a bit chunkier, but they have the same smile! Sweet boys. :-)

2 Years & 2 Months

The boys had their 2-year & 2-month well-child check ups today.

Joshua is always so intrigued by the rolling stool in the exam room. He was trying to figure out how it worked - perhaps we have a future engineer on our hands?

Mr. Two-Years-Old weighed in at 32 lbs. & measured 35.5 in. tall. I believe the weight is accurate, but the height measurement is the same at it was 2 months ago, and I KNOW he has gotten taller since then! So, perhaps the measurement was off at his last appointment. He has a bit of a runny nose, but other than that is one healthy little man!

This poor guy had to get his 2-month immunizations. Even though I know it's painful for him, I always think the shots are harder on the momma than they are on the babe! :-(

At 2 months, Luke weighed in at 13 lbs. 14 oz. & is 24.5 in. long! At this age, Joshua weighed 15 lbs. 7 oz. and was 24.25 in. long. So, while Luke is not quite as big as his big brother was, he is quickly catching up!

It's so rare that I get a photo with both my boys, I asked Mike to quick snap one before he headed back to work after his lunch break. We are all pretty pooped from the events of the day, so I think a nap is in order for everyone!

Have a happy Monday!

Love,

Brothers ♥

Just a few photos I snapped of my boys in JJ's bed the other day...

Sweet boys!

Kisses for "Yukey."

Having a serious heart-to-heart. I hope they will have many of these as they grow up together!

Joshua loves reading to his baby brother, and Luke absolutely ADORES his big brother. Joshua walks into the room, and Luke gets a huge smile on his face. He also grins and gets excited whenever he hears Joshua's voice. JJ definitely has an admirer!

My big brother is the BEST, Momma!

This one is my favorite...look at Luke's grin! That is the grin he gives his brother whenever he is around...so sweet!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Winter Wonderland

Yesterday, the temps reached a balmy 51 degrees here in Fairview. So, we bundled up and headed out to soak up some fresh air and sunshine!

5 minutes into our walk, this little man was out cold.

We love our double stroller! Makes Momma's life so much easier!

Today, it looks a little more like winter outside. The snow has been blowing all day, and the temp reached a high of a whopping 14 degrees. Bbbrrrr! But, we are thankful to have had a beautiful winter thus far. Guess it is time to pull out the snow boots and sleds and prepare for some winter fun!

My Turn

There have been lots of “2012 New Year’s Resolution” posts floating around the blogosphere, so I figured I should probably write one. Writing these things down and posting them for the world to see means you all will hold me accountable, right? Please?

Anyway, here are my aspirations for 2012:

Be the best wife, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend I can be.
Of course, this is my goal every day, but I have some specific ways in which I want to try to accomplish this:

1) Send more cards - birthday, anniversary, congrats, thank you and “just because” cards. I used to be better about sending fun cards and letters...I’d like to get back to doing so.

2) Call more often. I have fallen into the habit of just sending a text when I want to say something, but I need to call family and friends more often just to talk.

3) Be better about separating the URGENT from the IMPORTANT. I went to a moms’ conference last spring and one of the speakers shared about this. The urgent things are those that demand our immediate attention, and cause us to miss out on the important. The important things are those that sit quietly, waiting for us to notice. For example, the phone ringing is urgent. But reading my child a story? That is IMPORTANT. So, let the phone go to voice mail. The laundry piling up is urgent. Having a heart-to-heart conversation with my husband over dinner? That is IMPORTANT. The laundry can wait.

Join a moms’ Bible study (MOPS or other).
This one is tough. Our church and community are small, and we don’t have a Bible study where daycare is provided. Now that Luke is two months old, I am ready to have a weekly or even bi-weekly get-together with other moms to share our faith without the distractions of little ones. Fellow mommas - if you know of any such thing in the area, please send me info!

Have devotions every morning.
I don’t know when it happened, but I have fallen out of the habit of doing daily devotions, and I need to correct this. I signed up for a daily e-mail devotional for moms, and I plan to read it every morning over coffee! After all, how can I expect to properly teach my children to love and live for God if I am not being spiritually fed myself?

Exercise 5-6 days a week.
Before I got pregnant with Luke, Jillian was whipping my butt into shape every morning, with one day off each week. I felt great, and my goal is to get back into the habit. It’s only 20 minutes a day. Granted, they are 20 KILLER minutes, but well worth it! Jillian has nearly killed me these past couple days, but I know it will get easier as I persist.

Eat healthier and make healthier meals for my family.
I try to offer fruits and veggies with every meal, but I need to be more intentional about it. Also, I need to force myself to eat healthier. I often don’t get the chance to (or don’t remember to) eat until both boys are down for their afternoon naps, and by then I would rather just grab something quick and easy than sit down and eat a good meal - this is bad, bad, BAD! When I don’t get proper nutrition, I am cranky and don’t feel well. And, we all know, if Momma’s not happy, nobody is, haha!

Lose remaining 20 lbs.
According to the scale at the doctor’s office last week, I still have 20 lbs. of baby weight to lose. That means I have already lost 30 since having Luke. I am pleased with this, because I haven’t eaten well (chalk it up to those delicious holiday goodies and lack of motivation!), or exercised. But, I know I will have to work much harder to lose those last pesky 20 lbs. Hopefully, the above goals will help with this!

Just enjoy my husband and children, even if that means letting some things go around the house sometimes.
This is probably a subset of goal #1, but I feel it deserves to stand on its own. It has taken some time, but I am learning that it is much more fruitful for me to drop what I am doing and read a book to Joshua or cuddle my baby than to get that next load of laundry in or sweep the kitchen floor. Those things will get done, somehow. But, I only have such a short time with my family, and I want to make every moment count!

So, there you have it. Everything I hope to accomplish in 2012. Well, the big things, anyway.

And, because I know no one likes a post without pictures, I'll finish this one with a couple cute pics of my boys:

Happy baby! Seriously cannot get enough of those smiles!

This kid is just too sweet! We have definitely had our bouts of the "Terrible Twos", but he so often melts my heart that I forget those more difficult moments. This morning he came up, kissed me on the cheek and said, "Love you." I mean, how could you not turn to total mush over that?!?!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

94

This past weekend, we traveled to Iowa to celebrate my Great-Grandma Rozendaal's 94th birthday.

She is one special lady! She now has 6 GREAT-GREAT grandchildren, and she got to see them all on Saturday!

5 generations. God is so good!

09 January, 2012

8 Weeks

8 weeks...I swear the days are flying by faster and more furiously every week!

Still a great sleeper. We are finally getting into a routine. I feed him around 8:15 - 8:30, we read stories with the boys, then put them both to bed around 9. Luke usually wakes up between 2-5 a.m. to eat, then it's back to bed until about 6-7. He eats again and naps from about 8-9. So, overall, he is sleeping around 10 hours a night. Momma is getting between 6-8 hours of sleep, which is wonderful! :-)

This week Luke started cooing and it is so sweet to listen to him. He just lays there smiling and cooing - such a happy boy!

He REALLY loves his big brother. Whenever Joshua comes into a room, Luke watches his every move. He smiles and coos at him...I'm sure it won't be long until he is trying to follow him around!

I have lots of posting to catch up on, so stay tuned this week!

Happy Monday!

7 Weeks

WARNING: The reading of this post and viewing of these photos may lead to cuteness overload!

7 weeks old already!

Cuteness.

Happy baby!

Momma's chunky monkey.

Oh my goodness. I am dying here!

Seriously, could he be any cuter?! Of course, I am partial! :-)

We had a blessed Christmas and New Year. My family came to visit over Christmas weekend, and Mike's family came the next weekend. We hope your Christmas and New Year were filled with love and joy!

Unfortunately, I have a beastly headache today, and since I just got both boys down for their naps, I am going to take a break and lie down.

Have a wonderful Monday!
