A Saturday Well-Spent

Don't you just love Saturdays? Whether filled to the brim with activity or peaceful and relaxing, Saturday has got to be my favorite day of the week. Just me and my boys, together, all day long. I love it! Today was one of those beautiful Saturdays used to rest and rejuvenate after a busy week.

We had lots of playtime...

And snuggle time...

Yummy food...

And did we spend the entire day in our jammies?

YOU BET! :-D

Joshua also spent much of today walking all over the house! What a big boy!

And now we are enjoying a little ice cream before bedtime. Terrific end to a terrific day!

Love,
M, K & JJ

Plans Change

This morning I woke up with every intention of cleaning the upstairs. Joshua, however, awoke with different plans for Mommy's day. I know you won't believe me because he is grinning away in these pictures, but our poor little guy has been having a rough day. He does NOT want to be put down (I am typing this over his head), and just cries and cries if I do put him down (hey, I needed to use the restroom!). I am thinking we are going to be seeing more teeth soon?

Despite the fact that I was rarin' to get some things accomplished today, I will take advantage of the snuggle time. Perhaps we'll cuddle up on the couch with some snacks and a blanket and pop in a movie. The cleaning can wait. Quality mommy-baby time cannot. :-)

Ministers' Wives

A retired pastor friend of ours sent us this poem, and I just had to share! :-)

Ministers’ Wives

H.W. Pope

A quiet observer sees many wise things,

And that’s why this writer so frequently sings;

He notes that since preachers have arduous lives,

God saves the best girls for ministers’ wives.

She keeps down expenses and pays up their dues,

And cheers up her husband when he has the blues.

She tends her own babies and some others, too,

And nurses and cheers many sick women through.

She’s here and she’s there, all over the town,

With a bright sunny smile and never a frown;

She coaxes wild fellows to slacken their pace,

To find a good wife, and better the race;

She mothers the girls who’re inclined to flirt,

Helps cover the neck and lengthen the skirt;

She’s kind to the poor and nurses the sick,

And encourages people through thin and through thick.

Her husband comes first in all of her plans,

Although she’s a sister to every good man;

She tells him his sermon’s a little too long,

And that Johnson’s new clerk has been going wrong;

Her home is a refuge to all the oppressed,

And come when they may, they find her well-dressed.

All classes declare she has blessed their lives,

And say that none equal these ministers’ wives.

Don’t pity your preacher, but pay him his dues,

And heed what he says and bury bad news;

Someday a great sorrow may come to your home,

And then you will find that he’s doubly welcome.

And if in your house some dear one should die,

He’ll point the way plainly to Jesus on high;

His tender devotion, his prayer and his love,

Will seem like a blessing from heaven above.

In public and private, you’ll find him the same,

The friend of all classes, of whatever name;

He tries to be helpful, but sometimes he fails;

When he points out men’s sins he’s often assailed.

Be fair in your judgment, be honest, sincere,

And none will come to your heart quite so near;

If preachers are blessings, sometimes in disguise,

Remember, it’s due to these ministers’ wives.

I definitely don't claim to live up to what this poem says, but it's definitely a goal to which I aspire. Mike and I have entered into this ministry together knowing that God is faithful and just, and no matter which direction he leads us, he will always provide for us, our family, our ministry, congregation, and community. What a wonderful God we serve!

First Steps!

Joshua started taking a few steps here and there this week, and we finally caught it on video tonight! He is so proud of himself, can you tell? And Mommy and Daddy are pretty proud, too! :-)

Cool Kid

Did you know this is how the cool kids are wearing their hair these days? Ha! Won't he just love all these pictures when he gets older? ;-)

Joshua took his first steps yesterday, right into his daddy's arms! It was the sweetest thing. Since then, we have only caught him walking a couple times, and only when he thinks we're not watching. I will try my best to get a video posted soon, but so far the little stinker won't perform for his momma! Oh well, soon enough we will be running around in circles!

Have a wonderful day all!

Rearranging

Last night, Mike and I finally got around to taking the Christmas trees down. I am always sad to do so because I love the atmosphere the trees add to our home. But, alas, it was time. Someone (ahem, JOSHUA) made out like a bandit this Christmas, and seeing as how his birthday is just two days after Christmas, he really scored big! We needed a place to put all his new loot, and with the Christmas trees gone, the north wall in the front room makes the perfect spot!

He was a little confused last night when he trotted over to his usual corner and his toys had disappeared! But he soon figured it out, and has already laid claim to the entire front room.

Nice bedhead, huh? ;-)

And these are just a couple of our sweet little boy post-bath in his big boy jammies. Looking SO GROWN UP!

Well, friends, I'd better get moving. As I type this our *sweet* boy has dumped the basket of clean, folded laundry and is now pushing the empty basket around the living room floor!

Blessings to you and yours,

Happy 2011!

Happy New Year! 2010 was full of new and exciting events, and we can't wait to see what God has in store for 2011!

Joshua had his 1-year well baby check-up this past week and he weighed in at 28.2 lbs. (99%) and is 32.5" (99%) tall! In other words, that is one BIG boy! But we are thankful that he is healthy and happy. He has started to repeat sounds, and is learning all kinds of new words. His vocabulary now consists of, "Dada, Buh-bye, Baby, Hi and Please."

We hope you all have had a blessed holiday season, and we pray God's blessings and provisions to you in 2011!

Love,
The Hollemans
