On the Mend

Last week, our little man caught a pretty nasty cold. It is so difficult as a parent when your child is miserable. We spent some extra time snuggling and watching VeggieTales to help him recuperate. Netflix now has VeggieTales on demand...every parent's dream! :-)

Thankfully, it didn't take long for Joshua to get back to his joyful, boisterous self!

Despite a persistent runny nose, our little guy is back to keeping Mommy and Daddy on our toes!

Hope you all are having a wonderful week! Love and blessings!

Just Daddy and Me

Today, Mom and I met in Davenport, IA, for a girls' day out. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Carlos O'Kelley's and then spent the afternoon in retail heaven. :-) My mom and I are known for being excellent bargain shoppers, and we definitely struck some good deals!

While we were gone, my boys had fun playing together. Mike and Joshy have missed spending their days together! Here is what happens when Mommy leaves for the day...

Mommy's gone? ALRIGHT! Party at the Hollemans'!

Doesn't he look so grown up?

What do you mean we have to "fend for ourselves," Dad????

I was amazed to discover he didn't wear his pajamas all day! :-P

What mess?????

Taking the mail to the post office...hopefully the postman doesn't mind a little drool! ;-)

Swinging in the back yard!

One cool dude!

Goofy boys!

Love my Daddy!

Playing Catch-Up

Phew! I think this is the final blog post for the day! Until today, we have been without Internet at the house, so I have been busy uploading and updating ever since the Internet guys left!

Joshua is changing every day...his personality just keeps on developing, and it is truly amazing and adorable to watch!

Here are a few Joshy updates:

1. TEETH! He has another tooth! His right front bottom tooth finally decided to make an appearance, and his top front teeth are close behind!

2. FOOD! Joshua is no longer eating baby food! He decided he is way too *grown up* to be eating baby food, so table food it is! He still refuses to feed himself, however...guess he'll stay my baby for a little while longer. ;-)

3. BOTTLES! Or should I say sippy cups? He is strictly drinking from sippy cups now...this whole growing up thing is happening way to fast for Mommy's liking!

4. PERSONALITY! Joshua has always been full of personality, and it is so fun to watch as his character continues to develop. One thing that has become quite obvious lately is that he will do ANYTHING to get ANYONE's attention! When we go out to eat, he flirts with the waitress. When we go shopping, he talks to the cashier. If the person whose attention he desires does not notice him, he will squeal, laugh, fake cough, babble...whatever it takes until they do! Today when the cable/Internet guys came over, their one-hour job turned into a 2-hour job because Josh was determined to distract them. He crawled up to the first guy, pulled himself up on his pant leg and demanded to be picked up! Of course, who could resist that face????? :-)

5. NO-NO! This has become the most common phrase in our household as of late. Joshy is into everything, but he has already learned what "no" means. If Mike or I tell him, "No-no," he will stop what he is doing, look at us and move on to something else. We are convinced that his first word will be "no," and then we really will be in trouble! ;-)

6. MOBILITY! It is crazy how mobile this child is! He crawls everywhere and is extremely fast! He's always pulling himself up on everything, and has come very close to pulling himself up onto the couch a couple of times.

As for Mike and myself, we have been keeping busy as well! Mike has preached his first two sermons at Fairview Reformed. I am still working on decorating and unpacking. This week Youth Club starts. I am teaching Music/Memory Work, and Mike will be leading games. We are excited to be getting more invloved!

Well, friends, that's it for now. Time to start thinking about what's for dinner...

Love and blessings,

M, K & JJ

Apple Picking

This past weekend, we went apple picking at the local Christ's Orchard.

Our apple of choice was Yellow Delicious because they are the most versatile apples for making sauce and baking.

We had an absolutely gorgeous day for picking...Joshy had a blast riding along in the wagon!

He quickly learned how to get those apples off the tree!

Helping Daddy reach the high ones!

This sign made me smile...

Visitors from Michigan

This past weekend, Mike's parents drove down from Michigan to visit us.

Joshy and I gave Grandpa and Grandma the grand tour of Fairview - we love showing off our small but adorable home town! :-)

We visited the park, where Joshua and Grandpa "horsed" around...I know, I know, I am so NOT funny, but I couldn't resist!

Saturday, we went apple picking at a local orchard. Pictures of that to come in the next post!

We are so thankful to have such wonderful parents! It is so important to us that our children have close relationships with their grandparents, just as Mike and I have always had with ours. We have both been blessed with wonderful families and we thank God for you all each and every day!

Love and blessings,
Mike, Krys and Joshua
